Samsung LN19C450 19" 720p LCD TV

SAMSUNG LN19C450 FEATURE REVIEW

Samsung's 2010 4 Series LCDs are a step up from the 3 series. Available in the same sizes they still feature a 60Hz, 720p, CFL backlit panel, with SRS TruSurround HD. They add a third HDMI input, the ability to watch video off a USB thumb drive and Samsung's AnyNet+ which allows communication between similarly equipped Samsung home theater equipment.
The 4 Series LCD make for an excellent TV for the bedroom, a child's room or other rooms where you need a smaller, less expensive HDTV.

Samsung LN26C350 Review

Samsung's 2010 3 Series LCDs feature 720p screens, which in a small TV is all you'll ever need. Flourescent backlighting, a 60Hz refresh rate, SRS TruSurround HD, 2 HDMI inputs and numerous analog inouts round out the feature set. The 3 series LCDs also feature a game mode which limits picture processing to cut down on the input lag associated with many HDTVs.
The 3 Series LCD make for an excellent TV for the bedroom, a child's room or other rooms where you need a smaller, less expensive HDTV.

Picture Quality Performance: With such a small screen it's difficult to note any motion artifacts in the background unless looking very closely. But it's there to a small degree if you want to get out the magnifying glass. The processors did a very nice job. Color rendition was not oversaturated, if not sometimes a little muted.

Calibrating to near D65 was fairly easy. With smaller TVs we are not quite as concerned with pinpoint accuracy to D65. However, the below picture settings will get you close. There are more white balance controls and advanced settings than I anticipated based on size and price, such as Black Tone, Dynamic Contrast, a Gamma setting, and a nifty Flesh Tone setting that will take the onscreen flesh tones from a yellowish to a pinkish appearance at your whim without changing the overall color appearance of the picture much.
Follow these picture settings for the LN32C450 LCD.

Testing for Motion Artifacts: Samsung did not cut corners on the processing video boards contained in the LN32C450. We were fairly impressed with testing results.

Samsung UN55C6300 55" 1080p 120Hz LCD LED TV

Samsung UN55C6300 Review

Model: Samsung UN55C6300
Description: 55" 1080p LED Backlit LCD Television (super thin)
Reviewer: Robert Wiley
Date: Fall 2010

Price Considerations: At $1999 at online authorized retailers, this the 55C6300 costs $200 to $300 less than the 55C6500 which has full Internet connectivity. That's the only difference in the two. So you will need to decide how important Internet connectivity is to you. It's still not inexpensive but this is a good price point in the 55" LED category. This TV has the newest LED backlighting, a super thin depth, sleek good looks, but does not contain 3D capability.

For any film or broadcast TV non-sports based material start by turning off the 120Hz rate feature as follows: Click Menu/picture/Scroll down to Picture Options/Press enter/Scroll down to AutoMotionPlus 240Hz/Press Enter/Scroll or press to Off position. It is important to turn this feature off (see more on this feature under features section below).
Color saturation is a strength of these new LED backlit Samsung LCDs. Colors are super vibrant even if on the unrealistic side at times. It's what our society (maybe not so much purists) likes these days. On rare occasions there is some over saturation within blacks.

Black Level/Contrast: With color information both light and dark appearing so deeply saturated, contrast effect is excellent. Blacks appear inky and sometimes lose dark shadow detail. White light sometimes is distractingly too bright.
Contrast degrades at around 45 degrees off axis which is a slight improvement over last years model and average for an LED backlit LCD. An eyeball estimate of the decrease in contrast is around 20% (this is impossible to actually measure.) One positive is that contrast does not degrade more as the viewing angle widens past this initial 45 degrees.

STRENGTHS

  • Aesthetics – Contemporary Design 1.1" depth with 1" frame. Great looking TV.
  • New and exciting Swivel quadrapod stand
  • Good deep black levels – Avg. to good contrast.
  • Excellent color saturation and light levels
  • Optional 120Hz feature for sports programming
  • Great connectivity options for such a thin TV
  • Strong Internet Options
  • Good Value

WEAKNESSES

  • Proprietary Wifi Internet TV Network
  • 120Hz feature with Film based content (turn off feature). 120Hz is really about as good as 240Hz. The difference is negligible.
  • Difficult ISF calibration
  • Side Angle Viewing contrast reduction
  • At times over saturation of colors
  • Slightly Weak Volume/Audio output
  • Blue tone inconsistency across gray scales
  • Some complain of uneven light/color uniformity from LED back lighting
Price Considerations: At $2199 at local retailers, this the 55C6500 is nearly half the price of the 65C6500. It's still not inexpensive but this is a good price point in the 55" LED category. This TV has the newest LED backlighting, a super thin depth, sleek good looks, but does not contain 3D capability. It does however, contain Samsung's ever improving cast of Internet Apps options.

Samsung UN60C6500 60" 1080p 120Hz LED TV

SAMSUNG UN60C6500 FEATURES REVIEW

Samsung's 6500 series LED TVs for 2010 feature a new contemporary design thanks to the LED edge lighting. In fact the depth of the unit looked to us to be around the same 1.2 inches in depth from the 2009 model. The big difference that we noticed at CES 2010 in aesthetics was the much smaller bezel/frame which was only about 1 inch on top and sides of the TV screen.

The 2010 C6500 series LEDs wil have the AutoMotion 120Hz refresh rate, our reviews of various Samsung 120Hz or 240Hz Auto Motion Plus models from 2009 showed this feature to be excellent for sports programming but removed the natural background blur for normal broadcast and DVD content - creating an annoying kitchy effect. We also now recommend turning the feature off or to the gaming option for electronic gaming. We'll be interested when reviewing to see if improvement was made with other programming.

Although we believe the benefits from new power reduction usage figures for these TVs are overstated and not very relavant (maybe $1 to $2 a month savings on a 46" LCD) - we'll mention them anyway. For the energy conscious Samsung's 2010 LED TV line up uses green design concepts to meet the more stringent Energy Star 4.0 requirements.

Samsung is expanding their Internet@TV service to add streaming content from Blockbuster, Netflix USA Today and VUDU video on demand as well as access to services such as Twitter, Picasa, AccuWeather, Pandora and more through the built-in ethernet connection or optional WiFi. We're ready to see these TVs open up WiFi capability as universal and not proprietary.

There is nothing subdued about this LED TV, from its super thin good looks to its super saturated colors. Blacks are rich and deep and colors vibrant if not over powering at times. Some dark shadow detail is lost and and subtle color notes forgotten. But it's a colorful picture many will relish. Read our extended picture notes below.

The UN55C6500 did a good job eliminating motion lag and judder with the 240Hz feature turned on. However, turning the Automotion Plus feature off does introduce some side to side judder (jerkiness). Neverthless, we recommend this action for especially film based DVDs and movies on broadcast TV.
Processor testing proved very positive for the C6500 series. However, we noted false grain and mapping" in some older standard definition 480i DVD content.

Processor Testing: See extended Samsung UN65C6500 processor tests here. The TV tested very well when we ran it through a series of processor video board testing.

SAMSUNG UN55C7000 FEATURES REVIEW

Samsung's 7000 series LED TVs for 2010 feature a new contemporary design thanks to the LED edge lighting. In fact the depth of the unit looked to us to be around the same 1.2 inches in depth from the 2009 model. The big difference that we noticed at CES 2010 in aesthetics was the much smaller bezel/frame which was only about 1 inch on top and sides of the TV screen. On the 7000 series LED TV line the Touch of Color is called "Mystic Earth".

Samsung's proprietary 3D enabled system allows compatibility with multiple 3D formats to provide access to 3D content from many sources. As we note often, the TV will obviously perform regular two dimensional duties, but is enabled for 3D should you introduce some 3D content. We viewed DirecTV 3D enabled content on this series. We noticed some eye straining when the picture changed scenes or programming. We believe this was due more to the content than the TV.
Our reviews of various Samsung 240Hz Auto Motion Plus models from 2009 showed this feature to be excellent for sports programming but removed the natural background blur for normal broadcast and DVD content - creating an annoying kitchy effect.
